The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set out the prize money for the 2025-26 Champions League, with Kenya Premier League defending champions Kenya Police FC in line for a major financial boost if they go deep in the competition.
Police take on visiting Somali side Mogadishu City Club FC in their preliminary round two legged clash which will be held at the Nyayo National Stadium 20 September and 28 September 2025 respectively.
It will be a new challenge for Police, who are making their first Champions League appearance this season. They stand to gain exponentially if they can make it past the opening rounds of the competition.
According to CAF, the winners will collect $4m, while the runners-up will receive $2m. Semi-finalists are guaranteed $1.2m each, with quarter-finalists earning $900,000. Teams finishing third or fourth in the group stage will take home $700,000.
All clubs entering the First and Second Preliminary rounds including Police, will earn USD 50,000 each or approximately Ksh 6.46 million. This was a new initiative introduced in 2024 to address logistical challenges and encourage broader participation.
In total, CAF has allocated $17.6m in prize money for this season’s competition.
If Police make it past Mogadishu CC, they will take on either Jamus FC of South Sudan and begin their campaign with a two-legged tie against Real de Banjul, while Berkane face ASKO Kara on 21 and 27 September in the first round of Champions League qualifying.
